The trailer for The Umbrella Academy Season 3, which you can watch below, opens with the titular team discovering they've been replaced by the Sparrow Academy. As The Umbrella Academy's Number Five explains, jumping into the future created a time paradox. This paradox will seemingly result in the destruction of existence itself in four or five days.
The trailer also emphasizes the coming conflict between the Sparrow Academy and Umbrella Academy, showing members from the two organizations fighting. Additionally, the end of the trailer reveals Pogo -- the Umbrella Academy's intelligent chimpanzee -- is still alive, though he's now a biker/tattooist.
The plot synopsis for Umbrella Academy Season 3 reads, "After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns.
Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own – and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the Universe (something they may have caused) — now all they need to do is convince Dad’s new and possibly better family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Netflix's The Umbrella Academy was created by Steve Blackman and debut on Netflix in 2019. The show, which is based on the comic book of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, follows the titular team, who were all adopted as children by billionaire Reginald Hargreeves and trained to use their powers.
In Season 2, the team ended up in the '60s and once again had to prevent the apocalypse. In the finale, the Umbrella Academy returned to the present to find they'd been replaced by the Sparrow Academy due to their actions in the past. Umbrella Academy Season 3 also seems to be taking inspiration from Hotel Oblivion, the third comic book series, which is referenced in promotional materials for the season.
The first two seasons of The Umbrella Academy are available to stream now on Netflix. Season 3 releases on June 22.
