Don’t Breathe 2 sees the return of Stephen Lang’s Norman Nordstrom back for more following the 2016 horror thriller. Now, eight years later, Norman seems to have found peace, having recreated the family that was stolen from him as he serves as a guardian to an 11-year-old girl, Phoenix (Madelyn Grace). When intruders attempt to disturb the life Norman had built for himself, the evil inside of him is activated, resulting in deadly consequences.

In the first film, a group of young burglars break into the Blind Man’s house looking for an easy score, but the sightless homeowner turns out to be a brutally skilled murderer. It is later revealed that he had kidnapped and held a young woman hostage, impregnating her in hopes of replacing his daughter, who the woman killed in a car accident. When he accidentally shoots his prisoner during the robbery attempt, he captures and rapes one of the young burglars and decides that she will bear his new child instead.

As shown in the trailer which came out this week, Don't Breathe 2 revolves around Norman defending his home and his adopted daughter from a new set of invaders who are more ruthless than the last. Unlike the previous film, the sequel will eventually move Norman out of his home and reveal how he will operate in a new environment. Furthermore, at a recent press event, Sayagues explained how it would also delve deeper into the origin point of Norman's internal struggles with fatherhood.
SUICIDE SQUAD NEW TRAILER REVIEW
The original movie touched on what happened to Norman's daughter, revealing that he kidnapped the driver who accidentally killed her and forced her to carry his child. In fact, many of his most horrifying actions - such as trying to impregnate Rocky (Jane Levy) with a turkey baster after shooting his previous victim - were also tied to the loss of his child. According to Sayagues, the goal of the upcoming film is to explore how else he might recapture the joys of fatherhood.
The trailer and synopsis of Don't Breathe 2 make it clear that Norman will stop at nothing to protect young Phoenix from harm, which translates as somewhat heroic. Some viewers may be shocked at the thought of presenting the Blind Man as more of a protagonist this time around, but it boils down to the primary directive of protecting what's his. Whether the character makes one squeamish or scared, it is the mystery and fascination with his past and prowess that keeps fans coming back for more. For that reason alone, it's perfectly understandable that Álvarez and Sayagues chose to center the sequel on his story.
