James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is a movie full of jerks, but one jerk reigns supreme: John Cena’s Peacemaker, the no-nonsense Mack truck of a man with a ridiculous outfit and an absurdly large gun (and guns, if you know what I mean). He’s also the star of the first TV series to spin out of a live-action DC film, HBO Max’s forthcoming Peacemaker.

We then meet a cast of new characters, including Chukwudi Iwuji's Murn, Danielle Brooks' Adebayo, Freddie Stroma's Vigilante, Steve Agee's Economos and Jennifer Holland's Harcourt, as well as Smith's dad Auggie (Robert Patrick), with whom he shares a strained relationship.
"You use being a jerk as a way to push people away, but if you just drop that, people actually might like you," Adebayo tells Peacemaker at one point, suggesting we'll see a deeper side to his character.The clip then confirms Peacemaker will premiere on the streaming platform on January 13, 2022.

Written entirely by James Gunn, with five of the season’s eight episodes also directed by him, Peacemaker is both a sequel and a prequel to last summer’s The Suicide Squad. The show promises to delve into its antihero’s past while also showing what he gets into following the film. Joining Gunn as a director is Eastbound and Down’s Jody Hill.
Peacemaker also has roles for Chukwudi Iwuji as Murn, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Christopher Heyerdahl, Elizabeth Ludlow, Rizwan Manji, Nhut Le, Alison Araya, and Lenny Jacobson. Behind the scenes, Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker season 1 and has directed five of them. Gunn is also an executive producer on Peacemaker alongside Peter Safran and Matt Miller.
